The month of Ramadan also has important events that have occurred so far in Islamic history. One of the most important events in the month of Ramadan is the revelation of the Koran to the Prophet Muhammad SAW. This event is known as the Night of Power (Laylat al-Qadr) and is considered the most important night of the year in Islam.
Apart from these events, there are also world historical events that occurred in the month of Ramadan. Such as the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence, the Fight for Sunda Kelapa and many more.
Historical World Events that Occurred in the Month of Ramadan.
The month of Ramadan is a month eagerly awaited by Muslims all over the world, including Indonesia. During the month of Ramadan, the reward is given many times over to anyone who does good deeds.
Not only that, during the month of Ramadan several historical events occurred in the world and Indonesia. Here are six world historical events that occurred in the month of Ramadan:
6 World Historical Events that Happened in the Month of Ramadan
Proclamation of Indonesian Independence
So far we know that Indonesia's Proclamation Day occurred on August 17 1945. However, did you know that our Proclamation Day coincided with the month of Ramadan, to be precise on 9 Ramadan 1334 AH (Hijriyah)? Hijriyah is the calendar used by Muslims.
The event of the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence proves that the month of Ramadan has a special meaning for the Indonesian people, not only for Muslims in Indonesia.
There is another interesting thing, namely that Bung Karno apparently asked for advice from several ulama when preparing for independence. August 17th was a suggestion given by K. H Abdoel Moekti, also a Muhammadiyah ulama.
The Fight for Sunda Coconut
Next, there was the event of the seizure of Sunda Kelapa, which we now know as the city of Jakarta. The incident of seizure of Sunda Kelapa apparently also coincided with the month of Ramadan, precisely 22 Ramadan 933 H or 22 June 1527 AD by Fatahillah from Portuguese rule.
Fatahillah was the warlord of the Islamic Kingdom of Demak. The battle between the Portuguese and the Fatahillah commander's troops finally ended with the defeat of the Portuguese troops. This event was then celebrated as the anniversary of the city of Jakarta.
The revelation of the Koran (Nuzulul Quran)
Continuing to other events, the Koran, which is the holy book and guide to life for Muslims, is expected to descend on the night of Lailatul Qodr. Muslims always remember this day as a special day in Islamic history.
It should be noted that this Al-Qur'an was also revealed gradually over 23 years. The verses of the Qur'an that were revealed for the first time were Surah Al-Alaq verses 1-5.
Lailatul Qadr, which is a term to commemorate the night on which the Al-Quran was revealed directly from Allah SWT in its entire baitul izzah (a kind of divine space) which was then brought by Jibril gradually to Rasulullah SAW.
That night was a glorious night, a night full of blessings that cannot be doubted. Because Allah SWT himself mentioned it in Surah ad-Dukhan verse 3.
Conquest of Andalusia (Spain)
The country of Spain apparently has a history that is related to Islam. The story is that in the fifth century, Spain was led by a king who treated his people unfairly, named Rodriguez.
Tariq bin Ziyaad, who led an Islamic army of no more than 7,000 troops against Rodriguez's 100,000 troops, then finally succeeded in conquering Andalusia on 28 Ramadan 92 H with a war lasting 8 days.
Fathul Makkah
The 20th of Ramadan, 8 Hijriah, is a historic time in Islam. On that date, the Prophet and his friends succeeded in conquering the city of Makkah in a war called the Fathu Mecca war or the conquest of Makkah.
The war was caused by the behavior of the Quraysh who destroyed one of several Hudaibiyyah agreements. The Quraysh collaborated with other tribes to fight those who made peace with the Prophet.
In that battle, the Prophet deployed 10,000 Muslim troops. The Prophet sent his friend Khalid bin Walid as war commander and ordered him not to start attacking before being attacked. Together with them, the Prophet fought while fasting, then broke his fast in the middle of the road because he experienced objections (masyaqqah).
The Prophet divided two troops to enter the city of Makkah. Khalid bin Walid was placed on the right wing to enter Mecca from the lowlands, while Zubair bin Awwam led the left wing troops and carried the Prophet's flag through the highlands.
Then, the Prophet Muhammad circled the Kaaba and said takbir in every corner. He stated that from then on Makkah became a holy city and the Quraysh were glorified by Allah.
Battle of Badr
The Battle of Badr or commonly called Ghazwah Badr al-Kubra was a different war, marking the beginning of the glory of the Muslims. With it, Allah glorified Islam, raised its tower, then destroyed the idols.
In this war, the Prophet brought 313 Muslim troops, facing 950 non-Muslim troops. This striking difference in troop numbers did not necessarily discourage the Muslim army. With a very strong determination to defend the Prophet, the Muslims succeeded in destroying the infidel troops.
Allah strengthened them by sending down angels. The Quraish infidels ran wildly, the Muslims chased them, killed them and took them captive. From the Muslim troops, 14 people were martyred. Of the infidel troops, 70 people each were killed and taken prisoner. Among those killed was Abu Jahl.
There is nothing wrong if we try to be devoted to worship in this holy month where the feast of reward is on big sale. However, there is no harm in us as Indonesian Muslims knowing what events occur in this great month.
While exploring and relearning the history behind this event, of course you will be accompanied by learning the lessons behind it. Bung Karno said that a great nation is a nation that never forgets the history of its own nation.
So, that's a discussion of world historical events that occurred in the month of Ramadan. Hopefully this article is useful and can increase the knowledge of readers.
